Phone systems
Telephony looks like a solved commodity until you need paging, a nurse-call integration, a lift phone and a handset that survives a wet bar.
What a cloud phone system does well
Hosted telephony is usually the right choice now: no PBX hardware to replace, numbers that follow people, straightforward remote and multi-site working, and call reporting that used to require a separate product. It integrates with Microsoft Teams where that suits how your people work.
- Call flows and hunt groups that reflect your actual roster, including after hours
- Reception and overflow handling so calls do not fall into a void at the busy times
- Recording where it is required, with the retention and consent questions answered
- Reporting — answer rates and abandoned calls, which most organisations have never seen
What still needs dedicated thought
This is where a generic quote goes wrong. Venues and care facilities routinely need:
- Paging and public address, sometimes integrated with the phone system
- Nurse call integration, so an alert reaches a device a carer is actually holding
- Analogue lines for lift phones, fire panels and EFTPOS fallback — these have statutory and safety implications and cannot simply be migrated
- Power failure behaviour, because a hosted system with no UPS and no mobile fallback is silent in a blackout
- Ruggedised or cordless handsets with coverage across a large site, which makes this a Wi-Fi design question as much as a telephony one
The migration risk worth naming
The most common phone migration failure is discovering, after cutover, that a line nobody documented was carrying the lift emergency phone or the fire panel dialler. We audit every line and its purpose before any migration is scheduled.
Common questions
Can we keep our existing numbers?
Yes, in almost all cases. Porting is planned as part of the migration with a defined cutover window.
What happens in a power cut?
That depends on design, which is why we ask. Options include UPS on the network equipment, mobile failover for critical numbers, and retaining analogue lines for the services that must never be silent.
